How
to Apply for an Ohio Veterinary Medical License:
An
applicant must be a graduate from an approved, accredited school
of animal technology to become registered as a veterinary technician
in Ohio. Approved schools in Ohio are: Columbus State Community
College, Columbus; Raymond Walters College, University of Cincinnati,
Cincinnati; Cuyahoga Community College, Parma; Stautzenberger
College, Toledo, Vet Tech Institute at Bradford School, Columbus.
Tho Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board will not accept a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science as a sufficient qualification
for registration.
An applicant who meets the above requirement must submit:
1.
a completed application supplied by the Ohio Veterinary Medical
Licensing Board
2. a recent photograph attatched
3. official transcript from the technical school evidencing
the degree received in Animal Health Technology
4. Fees: for registrations issued after March 1st in odd numbered
years $35.00; for registrations issued after March 1st in
even numbered years $25.00.
5. Have a passing score of 425 or a converted score of 75
on the VTNE.

To a criminal records check. The criminal records check must
be completed by the bureau of criminal identification and
investigation in which the results indicate that the individual
has not been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, or had a judicial
finding of guilty for any violation set forth in section 4741.22
of the Revised Code.

An applicant requesting a criminal records check shall provide
the bureau of criminal identification and investigation
with the applicants name and address and with the
Ohio veterinary medical licensing board name and address.(77

The applicant shall ask the superintendent of the bureau
of criminal identification and investigation in the request
to obtain from the federal bureau of investigation any information
it has pertaining to the applicant.
The
Board will automatically issue the certificate of registration
upon receipt of the above credentials.
The Ohio Revised Code, Section 4741, governs the practice of veterinary
medicine. Please take particular notice of: 4741.01(F), definition
of a registered veterinary technician; 4741.17 (A)(6) and (7)
which sets forth the fee schedule for original registration and
renewal; 4741.19(C) setting forth the duties which may be performed
by a registered veterinary technician and the criteria for renewal;
and Ohio Administrative Rule 4741-1-13 which sets forth the schools
in animal health technology which are recognized and approved
by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board.
